layover drivers make mad money, but it is based on seniority, still, lots of senior drivers choose locals, home every day, we drive off-peak 97% of the time, driving night's is much less traffic, so it is desirable for us here in the northeast. This Burris DC only delivers to one customer in NE, and NYC, and L.I., but we also do backhauls from NJ, NYC, PA, NY, and all six NE states. most trucks are 2015 Freightliners, no downtime yet, the sleepers accrue 150-180k per year, so they do break down occasionally. Mine is a day cab with manumatic, Cummins, and radar, lane alert, and g-force actuated two-way camera, 65 mph limited, with e-log, & top of the line driver seat, & passenger seat (a rarity in trucking), with automatic emergency braking, regardless of driver input.

Pros

bennies, 2 consecutive days off, assigned truck for your 5 days on, warehouse loads trailer, you deliver to customer dock, no-touch EVER, no log violations allowed, but it is impossible anyway with e-log.

Cons

mileage based pay for NE, however, if you are a safe driver, you can negotiate a higher rate before hire, hit a low bridge, you are gone, as you should be anyway.
