Hi. I've been a company driver for about 10 mos. Graduated a private trucking school and, like most newbies, jumped headlong into a company that I new little about. I feel VERY fortunate that the company I went to work for was Doug Andrus. This company has been around since 1937 locally. US DOT#000234. I am now an active member of TTR and wanted to take the time for this post, after reading the shocking stories of how many companies treat their drivers.
The pay is above average for the region, but you DO gotta be willing to drive the truck. Miles=a decent settlement.
Fleet is VERY well kept, shop is attentive to a drivers needs and trailers are also newer and well maintained. They have a reefer/dry van division and flatbed as well. I pull a van so I dont know a lot about the flatbed side. My first truck was a 2012 Cascadia and when it got around 250K miles it was retired and I moved to a '13 Cascadia. They also run International and Peterbilts in their fleet. There is NO LEASE PROGRAM!! Company drivers only.
The personell and mgmt. are friendly and treat drivers like human beings. They employ about 300 drivers all in all and a handfull of driver managers that you can actually get to know a little. My current DM is an ex-driver and treats me good. The longevity of drivers is better than average because of these things.
The company safety record is good and they offer additional CPM for safety, mileage, and fuel. Medical/dental as well. The 401K is not matched, however. They have Pre-pass and I pass. Pay for layovers, detention, and breakdown. They have QC and all new drivers are e-logs. Rarely will a driver have to sit waiting for dispatch. They have gotten me home EVERYTIME I requested. The loads I get usually start at or near home and run back East 3 or 4 days to destination then they usually already have a reload lined up that brings me back West. The longest run I've had has been 13 days then home for reset. I have done 3600 mi. On some weeks but not always. Most return loads are NOT broker
They have several small drop/hook accounts. And mostly you haul out potatoes from home(Idaho of course!!) I live about 50 miles South of the terminal and they usually let me drop my trailer and bobtail to my house for my break.
In summary I know this is not the "dream job" for most drivers, and OTR life is hard, but after seeing more of what is out there I think I made a good start and I want to give the company credit for keeping drivers loyal and treating them with respect. I think that is the key to their success for so many years.
