I worked for MTL must tarp load! My entire first year over the road. I would have stayed if i could have and would love to work for them again! My FM Gerry was awesome kept me rolling! Truck was brand new 2019 500 miles on the odometer after my first three months with a 2015 freightliner. I moved to western corner of Texas and have yet to find a company better than Mc Elroy Truck lines! We had some issues at times but mc Elroy treated well. I worked hard and never really had issues. The only thing i didnt like was 65 mph gov I had to leave mc elroy truck lines in april of 2019

Pros

Always off on Friday night thru Sunday morning Truck was new when truck needed a new tire or PM it was never a issue Mc Elroy pays when you miss a load for that day if you have a mechanical issue. They fix there trucks so dont worry about it breaking down paid on time always easy to talk to finance or FM if there was a issue

Cons

65 mph max cruise for all the rookies.

Currently in my 13th year with McElroy, spent 8 years otr and last 4 1/2 running dedicated. Company has a huge problem adapting to change with shippers and consignees. The McElroys are very good people but not sure how much knowledge they have of day to day operations, any company who promotes values and morals and then acts like vindictive children there's a problem. I've lasted as long as I have because the company has always pulled through but now seems different, Mr. McElroy rest his soul isn't here to get it right this time. Definitely a top tier company just a few years ago but now just your average flatbed hauler!

Pros

Great home time, of course this depends on where you live.

Cons

Great pay for PART TIME work, away from home 5 days for 1200 miles week Deceitful company from upper management to fleet managers to recruiters

I worked 2 years at Hagerstown, MD day cab dedicated for Lowe's. Training was good at McElroy's facility, great trainer who taught me the value of time management. You can start off there making gross of 8-900, one load a day. We get dh mileage same as regionals, flat pay loads. Ido double loads all five days, bust my hump for a gross average of 1100. Some days there is just too much for the day cabs, so the sleepers will come in. Sucks for most of them, as they aren't making the miles they need. Fall and winter are slow, you'll make that 700 dollar minimum, even though you worked 5 days of hard cold weather.

Pros

Home daily, almost a 60+ hour weekend reset

Cons

Pay fluctuates too much, customer never able to unload on time or timely manner.

very very carefully of this company . I was employed by McElroy in May 2017 and resigned in June 2017 as a regional driver . Pros Pay per mile is good at $0.49 / mile Provide lunch Cons * Recruiter lies . You have a day and and two nights off . Also called a 34 restart . Placement with a trainer might not be close to home. * Low milage in the Northern parts ( talk to other drivers around the north and see what miles they are getting ) for all the work its deffenatly not worth it . * They will charge you for quitting. * Was told by an instructor that McElroy is a bad company and that I should not work for McElroy. ( You know who you are . Dont worry wont use your name ) Also my trainer was talking about leaving when I drove with him ( Met him 4 months later and he quit). *Turnover % is very high . Have to be a reason why . The instructors left constantly during train to discuss why they cannot retain drivers. * They constantly threaten you with letting you go during orientation. Their personal skills lack professionalism. * Trainer was rude not helping and very racist. * They will not consider you a CMV operator/driver if you drive with a trainer you are noted as a student even though FMCSR does classify you a CMV operator/driver if you drive a CMV on a public road with a CDL. This will mess future applications up for you . * They focus on a map to get to your destination and don't like a GPS . I drove for other companies and can promise you a GPS is the way to go. * Very tough to obtain your past logs after you leave. * VERY RUDE , TREAT YOU LIKE DIRT I am driving for another company and is very satisfied . I would say there is better companies out there with less money per mile but more in your pocket and a lot better treatment. You don't have to take my word for it , I promise you you will see for yourself .

Excellent company to work for. Home EVERY weekend. Not a huge fan of the equipment. Tough to communicate with FM.

Pros

Home every weekend (will deadhead home if necessary).

Cons

Not the best equipment, FM communication wasn't the best.

McElroy

Not bad, the agility tests were a small workout, up and down a ladder 10 times, picking up tarps, going up and down to your knees and looking under a table, can't remember the rest. Piss tested twice, hair test, and the cpm is I believe zip code to zip code. This will most likely be a one year job and move on. After training, it's 46cpm weekly.

McElroy Orientation not what I expected AT ALL

McElroy Orientation not what I expected AT ALL

I went to mt pleasant for McElroy and have to say that orientation isn't where you learn to back or drive. They show you what is needed to pass driving test and let you practice for hours, they are not there to teach you things you should've learned before passing your cdl test. McElroy is not a teaching company like swift or others, they are a flatbed company who expects you to know how to handle the truck but will teach you securement.

It is a great company, i hope you make it through orientation to be able to appreciate what a good company they are.
