Funny what drivers settle for. Some of the other drivers explained it. One guy gave good review, saying it was his fault because he got 3 tickets. He had to skirt the rules just to make 800.00. They give you 250 mile load, pay you for 250, but the miles are 290, say they short you 10%, that is $150.00 short a week. That is almost 8000.00 a year. Why stay here and make 8000.00 less a year?

Pros

The home time, if you give up $500 a week for it. Pro: Tommy the safety guy

Cons

Everything but the apu.

This is a great company for beginners or for people, like myself, who stepped out of a truck years ago and are just coming back into the industry. There aren't many trainers so students will be forced to wait to come to orientation or, as happened with a few in my orientation class, will be sent home until a trainer is available. Biggest complaint about training is that all the trainer trucks are automatics but after students test out they're most likely going to be given a manual. All the trucks are going to be automatics soon, but if a student is going to be put in a manual as a solo driver they should train in a manual. Equipment given to new drivers could be better. As expected, they're the older trucks that are about to be traded in. I got my truck with 525,000 on it. Since getting it I've been in the shop regularly to get things fixed. The shop runs 24/7 (Memphis) so they're fast about getting problems fixed and getting you back on the road. Miles are good and I don't sit long, but many of the loads are for FedEx which requires running at night. I prefer running at night because of less traffic, but it gets difficult to run a few loads during the day then switch over to running at night. I've got a good DM that's able to preplan me 1 or 2 loads ahead of my current load so I have a heads up as to where I'll be going and what my week will look like. No runs to NYC, nothing west of I-35. Home time isn't very important to me, but every other company driver I've talked to says they've been able to get home either the day of or the day after they request. You also get ALL of the time off that you're promised. Or, if you're like me and want to stay out, you can basically do a 34 at home then come back out to make money. During orientation you're told that Ozark wants this to be the last job you'll ever have and several company drivers have echoed that sentiment. When hanging out in the break room at the Memphis terminal I've yet to talk to a driver that has been with the company for less than 2 years.

Pros

Good for beginners, good place to stay

Cons

Lot of day/night switches, equipment could be better

Company is amazing other than not being home but I make between $750-1100 take home without being a trainer. Dispatch treats you with respect and they always try and work with you.

Pros

Dispatch great Excellent pay

Cons

Barely any home time

Threw me under the bus after an incident AND CITED FOR!! I was fired due to an allegation/citation of public intoxication to drugs and alcohol on there 0 tolerance to Drugs Policy. Cops never gave me any breath test, urine nor blood work whatsoever. No Miranda Rights given!! Ozark themselves refused to give me an alcohol and drug screen even after I requested several times in safety to prove this allegation wrong!! Hair Follicle I had done, proved I am 100% clean of drugs. Church going man myself, I don't even drink!!! Want even find a can of beer in my home. They play this Christian/Truly Good Guy type theme for the drivers, but DO NOT TRUST THEM, I REITERATE DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!

Pros

68 MPH Trucks. Had a great Dispatcher. Day 1 insurance I had no clue that was offered.

Cons

But beware, was never mentioned to me before hand, if you are not with the company 90 days or longer, you will pay for the bus, hotel and DOT Physical they only require, and only give you the short card. They state, they paid for the DOT Physical they keep the long form. I requested for General Purposes for a copy of it, was flat out told, paraphrasing, but a brute no!!!

Miles seemed to really vary. I won't say they don't play the favorites game, because they really seemed to when I was there. But one can make it work. The reason I left was because right at the end I was lucky to get 1600 miles a week, while new hires were running 2500-3000.

Worked with Ozark for 10 plus years...the downside...lots of FedEx shorter overnight runs (370-660) miles with tight delivery windows, sometimes you get stuck with scrap paper runs again shorter miles but you do get $15 to 30 bucks for anything less than 300 miles. But you string two of those together and you have a decent day (just a little extra work). Lots of East Coast!
Upside...No NYC or Canada, 43 cpm with experience, great shop, home time (every two weeks or so), almost zero layovers (Dallas area the exception), light fedex loads, no pay issue in the ten years I was there, they will treat you with respect as long as youre respectful. When my mom was sick with cancer, they allowed me to work a week then be home a week for her chemo for almost 4 months! Not many companies anymore would do the right thing. They are one of the few remaining "family" companies. Not owned by a corporation but the original family members. Newer trucks (some old trailers) and newer trailers.

All in all it depends what is important to you. One of the best companies I have worked for... Good luck in your search and trust me finding a good one is difficult. Don't base your decision on my post or anyone else's .... because it will drive you crazy...talk to actual drivers

I do know that Memphis area drivers can and are home most weekends...same with local area drivers at their other yards... Cant speak to the percentage of weekends off if you are not near a yard or major customer. They do have a few down your way (or did)... paper mill south of you in Alexandria?? FedEx in Shreveport, paper mill just south of Ruston, Bogaloosa to name a few...so again its possible but like anything anymore in this business its not a given lol

I'm a rookie, finished school and got my CDL in November 2013. I started with Ozark Motor Lines in January 2014, and drive southeast regional. I get home every weekend unless I ask to stay out longer. In fact, unless I ask I am routed home every Friday or Saturday. I have never worked for anyone else (as a commercial driver), but I am happy with my miles, pay, and access to anyone in the company if I have questions or problems. Don't get me wrong they are not perfect but after talking to drivers from a few other companies, I feel that I was lucky to get on with these folks.

I work for Ozark for a second time.everything on here is true from everyone that has posted.it works for some people and not for others.if u play it right they will keep u moving.they have lots and lots of freight.i take my ten then on the move again.i run what ever hours I have for the day then park.run run run that's what they like.the only problem I have is this nite and day stuff.to much nites.love fed ex hate running it at nite.good thing is that no one seems to hold a grudge.I got into it with load planner today and thought I was going to get the buisiness and ended up with a real nice run.great people here.u just have to take care of business and they will be good to u.I really love their shop here.they make sure u have everything u need to do the job.they give every truck a bag of lites in case one burns out.anything u need they give it to u.good place to work for the most part

If you want to have swing shift and set around in parking lots and docks Ozark is your place. They don't pay for dock until 24 hours later. One day your working days. And then out of the clear blue your driving all night on Fed Ex. It is unsafe and pretty stupid
