The people at this company are extremely nice and always helpful. They answer your questions and if they don't know they find someone who does. There is no atmosphere of not knowing what is going on. They are up front and honest.

Pros

Great freight. Good people. Ability to succeed!

Cons

Must be self sufficient. They will help you always but not do it for you.

Great company if you do open deck freight and would like to be a true owner operator. If your not a self starter this will be a bad choice. Nobody will hold your hand.

Pros

Your the boss

Cons

Some cheap freight

Any actual Owner Ops working at Sammons?

Used to be a good company till they got company equipment aka lease purchase trucks. Now they dispatch according to how much you owe the company. Also some dispatchers have their prima donnas that get all the good freight. If you are a O/O you will be looking for about 90 percent of your own loads because they have no salesman. The higher ups think they know about trucking but they don't have a clue.....

Lease purchase Sammons & R&R

I know a couple people that run for Sammons. They like it. They say they always have a pay check every week they run no matter how much they owe Sammons. Sammons has a repair account you can set up also. And all trucks have to have ELD's

Lease purchase Sammons & R&R

I was there for a year before I had to leave for medical reasons. My only issue with them was I ran almost 80% broker loads, but I do live in the Southeast. I liked everyone at the Company except a guy in the maintenance office who could be a real ###. A friend of mine paid off his truck in 22 months and that was even after some major repairs. He even chose to finance a new truck with them on a fixed payment. I have heard that they started putting new Tripac APU's on the trucks. Every truck is now required to run the Rand McNally EOBR. Overall though I did have a good experience and would go back to them.

I do not offer advice or guidance. Folks need to do their own thinking.Basic agent system.

Line Haul 75% first year with flat or step.

Fuel 100 %, Tarp 100%, $50 stop,100 % of deadhead pay.You can pretty much do what you want.A person has the option of calling agents, using Load boards, or using a specific agent to look for freight and dispatch in Missoula. Only once had a person speak really ugly to me,got that corrected.Real nice upfront folks. Not one pay issue ever! If it's a brokered load the agent or dispatch will email you a copy of confirmation. Then when loaded you get another that breaks out the pay, which is agreed upon before you ever accept the freight.Work what area of the country you want. It's a mix of agent freight and spot market.Last year saw a lot of coast to coast freight for steps and flat. And a good amount of OD.Its what a person makes of it.Don't really know how it compares to Jones,Mercer or the others. It all comes out in the wash any way.

Sammons. Is anyone out there?

Their L/P is no different then any other L/P. I would argue that it's actually worse then some. Sure you get a paycheck because of the structure, but in their own words it's a average of $550/week gross. The argument for worse is simple, if for whatever reason you wash out of the program, any progress you made on the truck is gone. Now that would be the same for any L/P deal, however, the money you would have taken home would have been greater under another program. Washing out isn't hard either if you read their contract, they can let you go for no reason whatsoever!!

Yes, major repairs go on top of your current LP balance so nothing has to come out of pocket. If you need new or more securement that is also added to the balance. Tolls go against the truck earnings also, basically the 26% you get is yours and you should not have to take money out of your pocket for the truck except fax charges and your 2290 tax. As far as 2400 a month, I have been doing that or more and only out 2 -3 weeks and home for a week. Now that I have thing squared away at home I am going to be staying out a bit longer and home a little less.
