Former Employee - Apr 21, 2021

We live in a very censored country so I have to keep my review very delicate. My review summed up it was good overall I considered the overreaching invasive unnecessary policies specifically sleep apnea in general made me leave I'll never come back since it's pretty average. Typical day at work I'd basically wake up get a load assignment do a pre trip inspection pick up the load get to the receiver then deliver the load set work time for the next day do a post trip then sleep. What I learned mixed with some workplace culture. The training overall was great. I didn't really have any problem aside from very minor things anyone experienced can fix pretty easily. Setting my own times to run was refreshing. I didn't really learn anything I didn't already know it's pretty basic what I went through. Wake up get a load at the time you set. Sometimes dispatch would try to adjust the times by shaving off a couple of hours which was really annoying I found the best remedy would be just ignore their times and drive when I would want to drive. I can't help it there's over burdening ELDs that force me to shut down when I'm wide awake and as a result I can't sleep so sometimes I start later than 10 hours I have to sleep. Management I felt like their objective was to let me know how lucky I am just to have a job and clean water. That was pretty much it. They were nice overall. Workplace culture There was a combination of people they were really nice humble people in general. I liked being able to know I could walk up to a fellow driver and he/she would help me and I them. The hardest part of the job. My 2 year medical card was rejected by the company Physician (Anyone with a CDL knows what that means that's a huge deal). The in house Physicians basically to my understanding told me if I wanted to keep my CDL/Job I would comply and take the in house sleep study and accept the cpap machine all provided in house even though I said I'm not tired during the day I don't snore etc non of that mattered. I should've been disqualified for a sleep study test just from that, but apparently only BMI and neck size matters. BMI was created over 100 years ago shouldn't be used to diagnosis anything same with neck size, but there I was being diagnosed with potentially sleep apnea and they were discussing surgery BEFORE I even tested it was a surreal experience. I was told I have a narrow airway by the company Physician but my outside Doctor later said I don't have a narrow airway. It's easy to predict my experiences based on just that. After my 2 year medical card was rejected down to I think 3 months (which is just infuriating) and basically jeopardized my CDL at that point, so I later on had to leave I'm not going to tolerate forced sleep apnea cpap machines which I don't need or have I tested negative with an outside company which apparently the Physician refused to accept its commonly known why but I can't post anything detailed because again it will be censored and my comment not allowed. All of that could’ve been prevented by just accepting my valid 2 year medical card from my Doctor but that was the hardest part to me, so to recap not accepting my valid 2 year medical card and exposing me to additional testing I don't need or want for something I don't have was the hardest part and was the reason why I left later on. The most enjoyable part of the job I would say would be the pay. Since I was able to set my times to drive I brought stability to my check even though dispatch would try to alter my times etc I knew when I could make money and when I wouldn't be able to. The freedom to basically ignore everyone else turn my phone off set my times to run most efficiently proved in my steady weekly checks. I knew that when I woke up I would have my assignment ready to roll. Dispatch would get annoyed but do I really want to play who's the boss and explain to them rush hour traffic means more accidents which means less utilization on my clock everyday or simply turn off my phone and get my assignment I chose the latter. The less I was in contact with dispatch the more I could accomplish. I would've done even better if I could've picked my assignments but the most enjoyable overall was pay and the stability I brought by utilizing my heavily regulated clock efficiently.

Pros

770 a week

Cons

Rejected two year medical card, I think they lied about whatever it took to hook me up to a cpap machine everyone I talked to was on one.

No integrity with this company. My rate was lower in the offer letter than on the phone and my rate IRL ended up being less than the offer letter. Dispatch punishes driver complaints with short assignments and excessively long live loads. I signed up for OTR work and was told 90% DNH. Reality is 50% live load and 50% of the live loads I receive are 5 hours or more wait. To date I have only received retention pay for 1 live load.

Pros

They take new drivers.

Cons

Complete lack of integrity.

I don't have anything to compare Schneider to since this is my first trucking job. I'm on a dedicated account and I'm home every day.I I've been with them for 1.5 years. I loved the training and I do feel appreciated within the company. My DBL was very kind and she made it bearable. Everytime I called in to Schneider with an issue or concern everyone was so helpful. All the way to the HR department. I could change accounts within Schneider whenever I wanted, all I had to do is give a 2week notice. 401k at 6 percent. What I don't care for is the inconsistent miles and low pay. I currently make 42 cent a mile with .04 cent safety bonus. At times, I feel over worked for to the lack of drivers on this account. They want you to do alot of extra work with no pay. Or I have to beg to get paid for the extra work they wanted me to do in the first place. At times, I don't feel my check is correct. I never worked somewhere, where I wondered if my check is right every week. There was no support in the support shift. You're basically on your own at night. You only have one option for insurance and it's high and doesn't cover much. Schneider isn't perfect but who is. I enjoy learning to become a better driver at Schneider but now I feel I'm ready to check other companies. When I find someone better I will be moving on.

Pros

Focus on Safety. Driver recognition. My own truck. Different areas of trucking besides dry van.

Cons

Low pay. Inconsistent miles. Health insurance. Payroll issues. Support shift. Tablets were sluggish. Truck governored at 64 mph

If you want to wear a stupid CPAP come and work for these crooks. I hate this dumb company and I pray they go out of business. Over the top regulations. They actually regulate above the DOT so if you have a hard time making sense of DOT regulations, you'll come here and want to quit the first day.

Pros

Orange is my favorite color, other than that. Nothing.

Cons

All of their policys are ignorant, just like all of their office staff. Cpap machine feels like it's trying to blow me up like a balloon. I will not stay here. If you read this, find a different company my friend. I truly mean that. I'm trying to find a different career because of these donkeys.

Started employment as OTR after covid-19. 2 weeks out 2 days at home deal. First DBL (your dispatch and pretty much only person you can talk to when you call) wasn't there never got me home on time (sometimes wouldn't even get me home at all even though I have put in request and approved) complained to operations manager and got a new DBL. New DBL got me home time on time everytime (no complaints there). Low pay, I averaged $600 weekly (take home). The dispatchers are terrible, Expect average 300 mile loads, some weeks local jobs only (less than 100 mile loads...even had done 5 mile live pick ups and drop offs). Even though I live in southeast, I was in northeast 95% of the time. Upstate NY, PA, NJ sometimes NYC. Expect to wait between the loads also after you get dispatched wait at least half a day for relays. Mostly drop and hook, (about %65). They emphasize on safety. No U-turn, parking on shoulder, ramps or even make your spots in truck stops or you will get fired. The "customer service" sometimes give you non-existent loads that will make you look like a fool in shipper office. When you call the dispatcher, first they will "confirm" the information and check internally then they will brush you off and "assign" a new load. Overall this process takes about 3 hours all while falls under "not paid" category. They pay $65/day layover and $15/hr (after 2 hours) for detention. Schneider prefers inexperienced drivers so they can take advantage and pay them absolute minimum. Weekly miles, 2000-3000 depending on the week and area. Equipment: trucks are new (%99 freightliner). (2017-2021). Trailers:12 years old to brand new. Mostly in pretty good condition. Most of the times tires are worn out because drivers never report them.

Pros

New trucks, good maintaining trailers and trucks, great OC's, quick emergency maintenance, great benefits.

Cons

Terrible pay, slow trucks ( governed 65mph), short runs, bad dispatchers, lots of non-paid waiting between loads, micromanaging, terrible overnight call waiting time (over 1 hour mostly)

Schneider Automatics?

Schneider Automatics?

Q: I'm in CDL School right now and I'm thinking about getting on with Schneider later on this year. 20 year Army vet. I already have my Class A CDL and working on my endorsements now. Also awaiting my TWIC card.

I have been hearing that all new drivers at Schneider are being assigned automatics. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I don't mind autos but would like to get some experience with manuals as I'm a newbie. I am leaning toward Schneider Bulk right now if they are hiring in my area. I'm near Savannah, GA and will be living in the area when I get out of the Army. Any advice you can give would be great appreciated. Thanks.

A: Teams get everything new, all new trucks are autos. Senior drivers will be the first to get autos in the solo world and that will probably be distributed somehow between OTR, regional and dedicated.

I'm in second of three weeks Schneider training. I paid for my CDL training so I'll receive their reimbursement which is paid over time. There are many options within the Orange sphere. I am on a dedicated accounted for SNI (Schneider National Inc). It seems to be a really good gig to break into the trucking world. I haven't found a reason to think I went with the wrong company. Good luck!

I finished training six months ago. I was out with a trainer for seven days then on my own once I passed the final test. The in school was seven days with the last five where you drove in the morning or afternoon. I did get my cdl before starting with Schneider

Q: I just applied for a dedicated reefer job out of my hometown and was curious what kind of benefits Schneider has and costs for Healthcare...single adult. Thanks in advance guys/gals.

A: I pay roughly 28 a week high plan. 1800 deductible once met 80/20. Until then you pay the ins discounted charges. Co provided HRA dollars that are used first. Wellness incentive paid to that as well. This is a rollover type account too. Can also get a FSA account.

401k vests 100% at 3 years company match upto 7% on a sliding scale depending on what you choose to have deducted.

Supplemental ins available as well as CDL protection and a few others I dont get personally.

A:The dental and vision coverage are great. Schneider pays for the vision exam coverage which also includes discounts on glasses, or you can add on the vision materials coverage. It's very inexpensive as well.

New Schneider Position

Talked with a Schneider recruiter today just for fun. They are advertising a position here in Alaska to fly guys to different cities where they need help. 3 weeks out 5 days home. Anybody hear about it or maybe in that program? Told me .43cpm for 8 years experience and .35 to start

Negatives are its obviously a different tractor every trip out. Breakdowns could be a ##### since obviously more trucks you drive your chances of winning the "lottery" is better. Good thing its mostly dedicated runs. Ofcourse that could suck too

Schneider driving training only 7 days, really??

Schneider driving training only 7 days, really??

Q:Am I understanding this correctly. After you go through a trucking school and get your CDL and are then hired by Schneider, you go through a three week training out of which only 7-10 days out on the road with a trainer? Most companies you are out with a trainer 3-5 weeks! is only 7 days enough training?

The thought of 5 weeks with a trainer does not appeal to me but 7 days doesn't seem like enough time.

A: SNI is all about safety and they do 3 weeks of it (with the 1 week with trainer). I hear they are pretty strict about it too so if they think you're not ready they will take the extra time I'd imagine. I'm in the same situation. I don't want to team train at all. I think training in this occupation needs to change to avoid that but safety is the goal so the more time the better.

Schneider's training program isn't a money grab driver mill like most everywhere else.
When you can drive... you are ready to go out own your own.
Not hey you can drive.. cool but we'll keep you teaming for another two months earning peanuts per mile.

Wondering about Schneider home times?

Wondering about Schneider home times?

Q: I am in Wisconsin and head to orientation at Schneider next week. I thought I was doing regional but my paperwork says dry van OTR. I am wondering about home times for either. Thanks in advance.

A:  Regional is either out 5 out 2 home or 12 out 2 home.

There's also slip seating which is 7 on 7 off or 14 on 7 off. I believe this would be in your contract when you're hired, it's not a regional or OTR program.

OTR is a choice of 14 out 2 home, 21 out 3 home or a month out 5 home. These are all also not quite set in stone. But they're very good guidelines of what you can expect.

Schneider Trucking SUPPOSEDLY best trucking company

Schneider Trucking SUPPOSEDLY best trucking company

Q: Schneider, claiming to be the best trucking company in the country. Schneider has overworked their DBLS so badly that they have repeatedly FORGOTTEN that my husband has approved time off, allowing planners to plan him routes that make him several days late for his off time. This time my husband will be two days late (missing his appointments!) because the DBL "forgot"!!! The only compensation they offered was to "try not to do it again"!

A: its critical the driver reminds dbl several times in the last week before scheduled REQUESTED time off . dbl has dozens of drivers to tend to.

lastly sni makes no garuantees about home time.

A: Good point. I stay on top of my dbl about home time and I'm usually only a day late.

And very true. Schneider makes a lot of promises, but no guarantees.

I think one of the better posts I've seen here was saying how when a driver doesn't say anything, their dbl assumes they're happy. Complain and things will happen. I complain all the time, I just make it a very friendly conversation to not piss my dbl off. There's complaining about life in general with suggestions on what can be done to improve it (while insinuating understanding that it's not the dbl's fault) and there's yelling at dbl. One of those gets results.

Starting off with Schneider OTR

Starting off with Schneider OTR

Well, my second post here on TTR and it's more so to keep a diary of my adventures and hopefully get some advice from some experienced people once in a while!

Started Schneider orientation this Tuesday for OTR. Have to do 18 day orientation since I've just graduated from a driving academy.. Swift Driving Academy (and yes, there's totally a post about my experience there). So far, loving Schneider. Comparing them to that big white thing... It's not even a contest.

I'm not going to go into what happens during orientation. Just let's say that I'm learning quite a bit, I'm really enjoying my time with my trainer and I'm also quite excited that he's already signed off on my driving to clear me to go out with the other trainer for a week.

As far as why Schneider? Well. For one, they offered me more money than anyone else. With prior military, I'm starting off at the same rate as if I'd had 1 year of experience. So .38 + .02 safety bonus. Can't complain. And also.. I like pumpkins. And my college is orange... Now all I need is a blue tractor and I'll be the biggest UVa fan on the road!

It was ... ... ... interesting that my second day in Charlotte there was a Swift accident 2 miles from the hotel. Horrible thing, mentor dead, trainee is in the hospital... Certainly makes me feel like I dodged a huge bullet there.

Schneider is Awesome!

i haven't been on here as much as I used to. For those who know or didn't know I live in Baton Rouge, La. I was affected by the flood & lost everything. I stayed off work for a week to get things together & make sure my family was good. Went back to work about 3 weeks ago. I get online tonight to check my pay stub & I see this! JUST WOW! I work for Schneider National Bulk Carriers & man it was a blessing in disguise to see this! Man I did not see this coming AT ALL. This is not something they had to do but they chose to do for their drivers affected by the flooding. Man words can't explain how much that means to me as a company driver who didn't think trucking companies gave a #### about their employees. I have to thank them in some kind of way. This is a REALLY big help! Not trying to get all religious or offend anyone who isn't religious but I must say that GOD is GOOD. He may not come when you need him but he's ALWAYS on time. God Bless everyone!

does anybody know of a good lease purchase program out there?

Schneider has the Choice program where you get to pick your own freight off their board.Similar to Landstar. Most trucks they lease are Freightliners.
