Q: I have been seeing this companies driving opportunities alot lately. Wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. As usual, the picture that is painted is a pretty one, but we all know how that goes. Anything I can find out (Good, Bad, Indifferent) would be appreciated. Currently driving a fuel tanker and not real happy with whole ordeal. Ton of BS for a peanuts paycheck.
A: AnR is a good company have a couple of friends that left Valley Bulk to go there both are very happy with the move, and the pay, better than a grand a week.

I
spoke with A&R today. At first I was told OTR/Regional home 1-2 days a
week, and every other weekend. OK I can live with that. Two hours later another
recruiter calls back and says I just want to make sure you are aware this is an
OTR position, 10-14 days out then every other weekend off.
Well no that's not what you told me the first time. Now I see why you are
offering $300 for a restart on the road. Apparently I would have been making a
number of those.
Used to be Mon-Fri was enough, now everyone wants at least one weekend. ####, I
am down to one company with every weekend off, but they are 2 1/2 hours away
and they are starting to look good.

I
got the same thing. 1st lady was through email and was a recruiter, 2nd was the
terminal manager from the terminal I'd be out of.
Recruiters don't know what the actual needs are, and how each terminal runs
there's. Mine for instance, has all the regional spots go to the guys with
seniority. New hires outside the regional radius get otr lanes, however I was
reassured that I'd be through the house a couple times a week considering my
location.
If that's cool with them, I can work my hours and schedule to let me spend 1
nIght a week home. I did 28 on, 3-4 off the last time I drove truck. Being home
every other weekend sounds great!

Congrats on completing orientation and welcome to A&R! I have been driving for A&R for a little over a year now and so far I have been very happy with the company. The best advice I can give you for the next two weeks is do not get discouraged with the loading process. I picked it up pretty quick my self, but I have seen other drivers struggle with it. It will take awhile to get used to loading all the different products, but I have found everyone to be very helpful with any questions I had when I was starting out. My trainer gave me his cell number and anytime I had a question when I was off on my own he would always answer it. Also there are usually other A&R drivers around when you are loading and are always willing to help. Good luck!

Yea,
I do pretty good. They have a "guaranteed pay" program, so you'll
never gross under a certain amount.
Pretty much if you're available for work AND you don't refuse a load you'll get
it. Last I heard, 1st years get $700wk and after 1yr you get $900wk.
I've always been over that, except when my truck was in the shop, then I got
the guaranteed pay.
Freight is picking back up, so we all should be over the minimum.....unless
you're a lazy driver, we have quite a few. Older drivers seem like they do this
for retirement as where us younger ones run circles around them lol

I
worked for A & R as a system driver (otr). It's not bad if you get mostly
loaded miles. I have heard several drivers complain that they were getting more
empty miles than loaded for weeks ,and months in a row. Those drivers were on
the verge of quitting, so they said. The rates for empty miles is only .30 cpm
and .48 cpm for loaded. Big difference between the two, and it can make or
break a paycheck real quick. If your hauling empty trailers 3 plus days a week
then you will go broke fast. I have only had more empty miles than loaded a
couple of weeks when I worked there, and they weren't consecutive.
They also have load pay and unload pay. Fuel bonuses are hard to achieve unless
you live up north. Hard to get a fuel bonus if you run the truck so you have
a/c while you sleep. You also get a bonus if you fuel where they tell you to,
but I never saw that one either. They would sometimes send me way out of route
to fuel and it made no sense at all. Sometimes 50 miles out of route. I would
just fuel at the truck stop chains they wanted me to, but not always the exact
location. It took way too long to get a new fuel solution from dispatch, mainly
because the qualcomm was slow.
The corporate office has this caring attitude directly towards the drivers, but
some of the terminal managers are less desirable than others. They have their
issues, but considering how many companies I have worked for over the past 25
years, A & R isn't the worst. In my time I have learned to get what your
there for, cover your own behind, and don't associate with others too much.
That seems to be the world we live in these days.
I had to leave for personal reasons. I have those issues worked out, and I'm
trying to get back on with A & R now. I'm eligible for rehire, but awaiting
an opening.

I worked at A&R outta Columbus lasted bout 6 months! The people where great & I was home alot but no money to be made! Tried to get OTR but so much local, i did get a handful of long runs thats it. When terminal manager asked why I was leaving I told him look at my checks, he did and couldn't say anything else to me! Called me a few times wanting me to come back but I declined! I was trying to save up for my wedding & it put me back so had no choice but to leave.
