Pretty much a dream truck job. Wholesale Organic Produce company, Small fleet - 20 trucks, running local South regional routes and local routes around Florida.
I do a Georgia ,SC, NC route. Leave Wed 4:45 am, Home 6:00 pm Fri evening. Avg 15 stops and each day I will run my 14hr clock to the last minute but I'm home weekends and only gone for 2 nights.
Mon I run a local St Pete route avg 12 -16 stops 10hrs
Pay is buy the drop, $11.00 +.40/ mile, some warehouse drops will be more due to detention times, works out to 30.00/hr
Avg work week adds up to 1800 miles with 30 stops
for about 50 hrs of work for around 1100.00 wk, not bad for Florida
Trucks are Penske fleet 2013 Cascadias, so break downs can put you behind, but you are sure to finish your route no matter what because of decent Penske service locations.
Work is not just driving from a to b. this is customer service oriented. Will usually touch every thing on the truck, most deliveries require to bring produce into store and drop in cooler so hustling is a must.
Pros
Great home time, my routes keep me usually on a steady sched starts of 4AM, nice to have a route that changes from time to time, get to meet with customers, more rewarding than just dropping a trailer in some yard. Management is good and tries to work with drivers on routing
Cons
Routes are tight and can be stessfull, especially some places we deliver to but thats trucking.
