I have been driving for over 36 yrs. and have driven for several companies over this time period. H.O.W gives me the respect, miles, and hometime that I want. The shop personnel treat me with respect and they take great care of my assigned equipment. I will be here till I retire from trucking.

Pros

Great company, you take care of them and they will take care of you. Pay could be a bit higher but the benefits outweigh the cons.

Cons

It’s awfully cold in Amherst in the winter.

Incredibly unprofessional language in their safety and training department. I fully understand they are truck drivers but no one shouldn't have to endure an f-bomb every 5 minutes and then if you go upstairs from their training department you are in the bunkhouse where you will listen to driver trainers (apparently they were planning on having all the driver trainers come in that day for some sort of meeting) talk about other driver trainers and how horrible they are and how much they dislike management decisions as far as hiring practices They will also talk about how stupid some of the trainees are that their company hires so if you expect to come here and be shown respect and dignity don't count on it. If you are a truck driver looking for a job expect to come here have their training department show you their obstacle course one time (which is comprised of about 9 different items. 90 degree back, parallel park from The blind side and the driver side, pull through two trailers, back to a dock, do a button hook turn......then they have a couple of lame boards sitting on top of some 55 gallon drums and if you come within a couple of inches of the board's they'll tell you that you hit the boards and at that point about halfway through the course they will tell you that the whole time you were supposed to be backing up with your flasher lights on and apparently this was the unwritten code that every truck drivers supposed to do I guess I was kept out of the loop..and believe me the whole time they are docking you every time you backup without those flashers!!!! I found it incredibly interesting that they thought I was not qualified enough to drive for their company. I've been driving truck for approximately two and a half years after graduating from trucking school with a 4.0 GPA. I have driven almost 340,000 miles in the last 2 and 1/2 years through the Appalachian mountains into New York and Chicago with a perfect PSP score minus a couple of overweight tickets for shifting coal in the bed of my trailer. I have no speeding tickets no accident tickets no inattentive driving tickets I have nothing on my record which is why within 45 minutes of leaving their promises I already had a job and went for my urinalysis. if you're still reading this review my best advice to anyone looking to come to this company for a good job look somewhere else!

Pros

Subway, Amherst Cafe

Cons

Unprofessional, backward, unbelievably ridiculous hoops.

H.O. Wolding ?

From what I've gathered, HO wolding is a very good company to work for. I've met two of their drivers before, and they both seemed to really like it there. They have pretty nice equipment too.

H.O. Wolding ?

All the drivers I've met that work for them have had nothing but good things to say. You could certainly do worse that's for sure.

H.O. Wolding is a GREAT company!

I really enjoy working at HOW. I cannot imagine driving anywhere else. I get the miles that I desire accompanied with good pay/benefits. The average pay is anywhere from $38,000 to $78,000 miles. Each driver has a assigned dispatcher that we work hand and hand with to get the balance of miles and home time desired. They also pay practical loaded and empty miles. All and all it is has been a great experience.

H.O. Wolding is a GREAT company!

Sorry that HOW did not give you the nod...

It is IMO a great place to start or move to as a company driver.

It is a good ethical company that treats it employees quite well.

The pay mentioned earlier is the raw data posted, year by year for various seniority levels posted iby the company....being raw data, if a seniority level has just one or two people, and they are doing mostly NYC work, getting the extra pay for that, it can throw off the averages...

what I can say is that the miles are avalsble....as many as you can find to run...and since there is almost all company drivers, there is no leasing games....and folks tend to stay at how...many drivers have left, only to return....if folks leave, it tends to be cause trucking was not for them.

The freight may not be glamours at how, but it needs to be moved, and it pays....

lots of paper for the central US guys, and water/groceries for the east coast, but unlike some consumer goods, it is used when the economy is good or bad.

The company is IMO a gem of a company...a place a newbie can start and be treated with respect, and not be taken advantage of. It is a smaller company, and hiring can be pretty varible from what I have seen when it comes to different areas, but it is cause they hire where they need people.

I get home almost every weekend ( unless I want to go somewhere, or I am due for work on my truck), and I like running regional...lots of work, but decent pay.

The starter trucks are pretty tired, but mine is still in good mechanical shape...maintance is good...lots of new truck and trailers are arriving, and the oldest stuff is being retired...

if you go to HOW, don't expect a new truck till you are pretty senior...

the company seems to keep trucks quite a while....but just like with keeping a car, it simply makes ecnomic sense....so you do work a bit harder perhaps for the extra pay...but it is like the old saying...all the chrome won't get you home...they are work trucks...they are company trucks...and as such, are typicall freightliners....

a few have apu's, many more with bunk heaters, some with opti-idle....and a pretty logical idle policy...do it when you need to....but minimize it...it costs money, etc...so far none of the draconion policies that many other places have enforced...in many ways HOW still has the teamwork/family run atmosphere of a much smaller company....heck the name on the side of the truck is there because they own the company, and they are still involved on a daily basis...

If I was looking for a job, and HOW called, IMO, go for it. It is not perfect, but in my research, it is among the best if not THE BEST starter company....and many folks stay for a few million miles....that should say something!!!

HO Wolding - Making my own hours...

When I began working at HO Wolding, I told them the schedule I wanted (Days off/Days on). My dispatcher keeps be right on the mark for getting home and makes sure I have a load going out when I am ready. I have no major complaints. Keep up the good work HOW!
